Barley Tea/Barley Water
*NOTE: Many Asian cultures have been brewing roasted barley tea for centuries. It contains antioxidants, improves blood fluidity, and helps relieve stress, among other benefits. Barley tea has a nutty flavor and is caffeine-free. It's also easy to roast up at home for a warm, soothing evening cuppa.
3 Tbsp. roasted barley (4 Tbsp. for a stronger tea)
4 cups water
Roast the barley in a heavy pan over the stovetop on medium-low heat. Stir frequently to avoid burning the grains. Roast for five minutes or until you start to smell the nutty aroma.
In a small saucepan, add roasted barley to water. Bring water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low. Let simmer for 5 to 8 minutes.
Strain out the barley grains (You can brew another batch with these grains, so do not throw it out after one brew.)
Serve it hot or cold. Sweeten with honey or sugar if desired.
