Whole, Hulless Barley
Alaska Flour Company's 100% whole, hulless barley is cleaned and bagged, ready for customers to cook, grind, roast, or use however you may wish. Try it in soups and stews, or substitute it for rice for a nice, nutty flavor. Unlike other varieties, hulless barley allows the whole grain to be used without pearling the nutritious bran layers away. Added to a healthy diet, wholesome, delicious whole barley is an excellent source of protein and dietary fiber. Available in 2 lbs. ($3.50), 10 lbs. ($10), 25 lbs. ($15), and 50 lbs. ($25) bags.
*To cook, add 3 cups water to 1 cup dry barley. Cover and bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour. If using a rice cooker, add 3 cups water to every 1 cup barley. Turn rice cooker on and wait until done. Cooked whole barley lasts one week in the fridge and 6 months in the freezer. Freeze small, pre-cooked portions in bags so you can quickly defrost it and add to any dish!
